The Professional Left is Killing Us; Example #1

Okay, if you want an illustration as to why the left can’t win an election, this is one major example. This post, from Daily Kos, received more than 1300 comments, so I assume that it was read/seen by a lot of people, although not enough to swing an election. But the complete and utter horseshit contained therein points to an understanding of politics that is so vapid, it’s killing us. And by killing US, I mean the progressive movement.

Now, I’m not picking on “MinistryofTruth” in particular; he/she/it is far too typical. But our side has to win elections, and we can’t do it if the loudest segment of our political side keeps on whining and pissing and moaning, and refusing to understand how to win elections.

Cutting the Crap on "Both Parties Are The Same" BS - Campaign Finance Edition

It's time to start cutting the crap on "both parties do it." Let's start with the concept that both parties take money from the same assholes, so they're both equally corrupt. 

What set me off on this was the following Tweet, which was posted last night:

I am just plain sick of this meme that seems to be very popular among the far left “pundits,” that both parties are roughly the same, and are equally corrupt because they both receive money from large corporations.  The left wing idiot above, whose Twitter avatar actually depicts a sign reading “I (heart) critical thinking,” might try some, since I am prepared to show that the OpenSecrets.org site shows just the opposite. 

Serfin' USA?

Let me start this by saying, I’m a capitalist. I like capitalism because I like the idea that, when you perform a service or manufacture a product that someone needs or wants, you receive compensation that bears some relation to the value of that product or service to the individual or group who purchased it.  

For the record, I also like Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, but I realize that moderating my intake is wise, lest I blow up like a balloon. Moderation and proper perspective are our friends.

I’m not a socialist, at least with regard to whole economic systems. While I’m not much for cynicism, I simply don’t have enough faith in people to think such a system would work. Create a socialist economic system, and I'd almost guarantee someone or a small group of people who would want more than the system offered, and cause such a system to collapse. Look at China and Vietnam for two examples. Both systems are “communist/socialist” in name only; both are becoming strong capitalist economic powers.  But there is a reason they work, and it's the same reason our system used to work extremely well, and for the last 30 years or so, it’s worked a bit less so.

More Politics 101: Obama is SMARTER Than Us!

I’m not angry often. I don’t believe anger is an emotion that makes things better for anyone but yourself, and even that is rare. This is generally a political blog, and in politics, anger is poisonous. I can’t say this enough; the average voter in this country (NOT voters on either extreme side of the political spectrum, but those who actually decide elections) is NOT motivated by anger, cannot be motivated by anger (usually), and actually reacts to expressed anger with disgust, for the most part. They don’t want to elect angry people, they want to elect competent people. They don’t care what WE think the issues are; they want to elect someone who knows and understands the issues and will do something about it.

Put simply, the general public already thinks all politicians suck, so you reiterating that politicians suck does nothing to advance the political process. 

But I’m becoming angry with the far left these days, not just because they’re being unfair to the president and the Democrats, but because they pose as political “experts,” despite the fact that they seem to know nothing about how politics actually works.
