It is just so hard to believe there is this much organized opposition to health care reform. Essentially, what these people are protesting is a plan to give every single American citizen access to a doctor when they need it, and to stabilize health care costs, and stop the double-digit inflation that has plagued the industry for decades. So, why are they so adamant? Why are they so intent on lying their asses off to make their point? The answer is, they are, to a person, dumb as stumps.
But more importantly, they are liars, and they prove it with every utterance. Here's the best of the best. If people's lives weren't at stake, I'd call this great entertainment. But this really isn't funny. Yet.
By the way, these are in no particular order. BS is BS, after all....
This is our opposition, folks. If we can't outlast these numbnuts, perhaps we don't deserve to win this debate...
Let's start with this absolute moron, who claims to be Marine Corps veteran, which means he has insurance, but doesn't seem to want anyone else to have insurance like his:
=====================================================
Here's a US soldier who decided to be just plain rude and demand an apology from Claire McCaskill at one of her town halls, because he has no concept of how the Constitution works, and she doesn't agree with his interpretation of it:
====================================================
This one is really insane, and demonstrates just how vacuous Republicans are on this issue. Charles Grassley held a town hall meeting back in June, and one of his constituents related his problems with the high cost of health care, and wonders why he can't have a health care plan like Congresspeople like Grassley gets. Can you guess how Grassley responded?
====================================================
Of course, as dumb as Grassley is, does it get any more chilling than Tom Coburn's exchange with a woman whose husband is suffering at the hands of private insurance.
The first thing you have to know about Coburn is, he's a DOCTOR! But beyond that, if government isn't the answer to solving the problems of 47 million people who don't have insurance, and the tens of thousands of people who die every year because they can't see a doctor, then why do we even have a government? And that's the disconnect, in a nutshell. Right wingers took over our government in 1981, and they don't believe in government, except to tell us how they want us to behave.
====================================================
Here's a short discussion with a loon standing outside a town hall meeting given by Steve Rothman in New Jersey. The guy was handing out pamphlets comparing President Obama to Hitler. The depth of these folks' ignorance about the Founders of this country is absolutely breathtaking, as is their willingness to throw around dollar figures that are literally impossible:
====================================================
This is one of my favorites. Katy Abrams disrupted one of Arlen Spector's town hall meetings, protesting the very idea of a national health insurance, but when confronted by Lawrence O'Donnell, she demonstrates that she has no clue what the hell she's talking about:
Here's a woman whose husband is apparently running a small business, and who's paying a bunch of taxes. As a small business owner myself, I know what she means; when you go from working in corporate America to becoming corporate America, the taxes at first seem daunting. But chances are, her family is not making more than $250,000. But listen to what she says about health care. She's paying for a catastrophic policy that doesn't cover jack, and her son is facing a second surgery, that they will probably have to finance, somehow. If anyone NEEDS this health insurance reform, it's Katy Abram. Note that she augments that paradox with a lie. President Obama has never said he would move us to a single payer system. EVER. The closest he came was many years ago suggesting that, if we were starting from scratch, single payer would be a good idea. But we're not starting from scratch.
I loved the question O'Donnell asked about political involvement. Classic...
========================================================
Of course, then there's the loon who interrupted Barney Frank's town hall, compared President Obama to Hitler, and then was properly dressed down by the Congressman. All members of Congress should learn this technique.
If she was answering a serious question, no matter how silly it sounded, Rep. Frank should have shown her respect. But she wasn't about asking a question; she was asserting her position, and her position was completely without fact.
========================================================
This is an interesting one. This is a town hall meeting with Sen. Tom Harkin, in which a woman recommends "capitalism" as a solution to the problems with health care costs. Listen to the loons boo when Harkin suggests that perhaps this is what got us were we are in the first place:
Then listen to their "comebacks" when Harkin tries in vain to explain that health insurance companies are corporate pirates. (Note to right wing loons; Congresspeople and Senators fly commercial, and the bailout bill have not cost us $23 trillion. For Chrissakes, folks, the entire GDP of the United States isn't even that high...)
=========================================================
Another outrageous assessment of our national debt comes via another citizen loon at a Ben Carin town hall in Hagerstown, MD:
Just to make clear, folks; the $99 trillion figure would only kick in if the entire economy completely collapsed and the dollar became completely worthless, and the federal government STILL paid all of its obligations, in full, over the course of about 20 years. In other words, it's insanity. Even with the current unsustainable plan, it would take about 30 years to even SPEND $99 trillion on health care.
========================================================
Here's a loon at Jim Moran's town hall meeting who is claiming that Medicare is $39 trillion in debt.
Seriously; why are people like this not laughed out of the debate? Have the people of this country just completely forgotten how to be discerning and research facts before they repeat them? If the government borrowed every dollar they spend on Medicare today, it would take about 40 years to reach a debt of $39 trillion. The next time one of these idiots throws one of these numbers your way, will you simply laugh? Please? Don't even tell them they're wrong. Just laugh. They're no different than the little kid who claims he wants to make a "bazillion" dollars when he grows up; it's really that absurd.
========================================================
And of course, there's the fine "biblical values woman who actually yelled "Heil Hitler!" as an Israeli Jew at a town hall in La Vegas. Apparently, not everything that happens in Vegas stays there:
And here's a video taken just minutes before, in which she tries to sound "reasonable." Unfortunately, for her, when juxtaposed with her "Heil Hitler" cries, she just comes off looking more insane:
Biblical values, my ass. Please, pseudo-Christians, please cite chapter and verse of anything Jesus said that would support any attempt to prevent providing every American with health insurance coverage...
And yes... health care IS a "natural born right," and doctors ARE obligated to give you health care at a certain point. She just can't get anything right...
=========================================================
I'll be adding lots more... stay tuned... and if you know of or have any videos or photos of these loons, please point me to them...
